LA MESA PARCELS (INTERNAL)
Parcels within one mile of the City of La Mesa, clipped from SanGIS
PARCELS_ALL using PW_GIS.clip_square. Approximately 46,500 features.
Replaces the legacy parcel_square feature class.
INTERNAL USE ONLY
This layer carries nine owner-related fields (OWN_NAME1-3, OWN_ADDR1-4,
OWN_ZIP, OWNEROCC). Under AB 1785 these must not be exposed publicly. Do not
add this layer to a public application, Hub page, or open data site. The
public parcel service, which carries no owner data, is the correct layer for
public use.
REFRESHED MONTHLY
Rebuilt each month from the SanGIS download, replacing all features. The
schema is inherited from SanGIS rather than mapped, so no field matching is
required and no attributes are silently dropped.
VALUES ARE NORMALIZED
SanGIS delivers owner names and address fields in all capitals. This layer
applies proper casing on load, so it intentionally differs from the SanGIS
source. Casing handles directionals (N, S, E, W), street types, ordinals
(4th), Mc and Mac names, apostrophes, hyphenated surnames, and business
suffixes (LLC, Inc, Corp).
OWNERSHIP CODES EXTRACTED
SanGIS embeds Change in Ownership processing codes inside owner names, in
angle brackets, for example SMITH JOHN followed by a bracketed DD. These are
removed from the name and stored in OWN_CODE so they do not appear in
correspondence or mailings.
DD - transfer on death deed. LF - leased from. LE - life estate.
DV - Department of Veterans Affairs. PF - purchase contract.
DERIVED NUMERIC FIELDS
SanGIS delivers bedroom, bath and stall counts as three-character strings
with leading zeros, with an implied decimal in BATHS. Clean numeric versions
are provided and should be used for sorting, filtering and analysis. The raw
strings are retained for fidelity but hidden by default.
BEDROOMS_N (short) from BEDROOMS, where 004 means 4.
BATHS_N (float) from BATHS, where 025 means 2.5.
GARAGE_STALLS_N (short) from GARAGE_STALLS.
CARPORT_STALLS_N (short) from CARPORT_STALLS.
CODED VALUES
Geodatabase domains are attached to DOCTYPE, TAXSTAT, SUB_TYPE, FRACTINT,
NUCLEUS_ZONE_CD, GARAGE_CONVERSION, POOL and OWNEROCC, so codes display as
descriptions throughout.
FIELDS EXCLUDED FROM SANGIS
Each excluded on SanGIS's own documented grounds.
X_COORD and Y_COORD are centroid coordinates, redundant with the geometry.
SITUS_BUILDING is documented by SanGIS as a blank field.
YEAR_EFFECTIVE is not Y2K compliant and SanGIS states it must not be used to
determine property age.
ASR_ZONE and ASR_LANDUSE are legacy, irregularly maintained, and superseded
by NUCLEUS_ZONE_CD and NUCLEUS_USE_CD.
MULTI is an Assessor mapping-division labeling flag.
PAR_VIEW is an appraisal input only.
REGISTERED UNVERSIONED
Nothing edits this layer by hand; it is a monthly mirror of SanGIS. The
monthly refresh truncates and reloads.

Data is generalized and created for use in regional projects. Refer to the
SanGIS end user agreement and disclaimer at www.sangis.org.
Parcels may lag the official Assessor Parcel Map due to the timing of data
transmissions and publication schedules.
Land use, zoning and property description fields are not regularly maintained
by the Assessor's Office and should be used only as an approximate guide.
Refer to City and County official zoning datasets for official zoning, and to
SANDAG for current land use.
SanGIS data is not a replacement for the services and products of a Licensed
Land Surveyor. SanGIS creates and maintains parcels to aid the County
Assessor's Office for TAX PURPOSES. This data CANNOT be used in place of the
legal description of a property.
Much of the underlying parcel data is old and unverified, and accuracy varies. |
